Homa Bay Man jumps to death from police van after allegedly killing 69-year-old woman

- He was also sought for extorting the public by masquerading as a public health officer

It was tragedy in Homa Bay county after a middle-aged man who was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 69-year-old woman killed himself in the hand of police officers.

The man is reported to have committed suicide a few moments after he was arrested for allegedly perpetrating the heinous act in Magina village, Ndhiwa constituency.

It was reported that Nyambok jumped death near River Arujo along the Homa Bay-Rongo Highway on Tuesday, June 12 .

Nyambok 30 was being ferried from his home when he committed the act and succumbed to skull injuries after the fall.

The deceased was accused of extorting unsuspecting members of the public by pretending he was a public health officers by threatening to arrest those had not 'complied' with set sanitation standards.

Homa Bay Director of Criminal Investigations (DCIO) Joseph Tushko said Nyambok had been arraigned in court for committing the two offenses in September 2016 but had absconded court prompting the police to search for him.

"The man was not new to crime and had been charged for allegedly raping and killing a woman in 2016. In 2017 he allegedly broke into a guest house and stole household goods. He went into hiding after the court issued several warrants of arrest as we were looking for him," said Tuksho.

Tuksho said the police had been seraching for Tuksho for a while in vain until his neighbours reported him for masquerading as a public officer and extorting them.
